Athens proudly retains elements of its past culture as a bustling port, from the lower historic district’s array of historic architecture to the Athens Cultural Center which continues the tradition of art which began with the Hudson River School over 150 years ago.
Athens Street Festival
We honor our culture, past and present, throughout the year including our pinnacle celebration, the annual Athens Street Festival. Held each year on the second Saturday in July, this event recently celebrated its 50th year. The street festival committee works tirelessly to make the event a must-see for residents and the surrounding communities. Running from the lower end of 2nd Street down to the Riverfont Park, the festival features vendors, music, food trucks, and local community groups. The event ends with a spectacular fireworks display launched right on the river. Come early to get the best viewing spots in the park!
